Have you been affected by Ciguatera Poisoning?: Yes, I have had ciguatera poisoning
How did you hear about us?: Search Engine

Tell us your story: Hi! I was diagnosed in Feb and have had a really hard time finding a doctor who knows anything about Ciguatera. Would you have any resources that might help point me in the right direction? I live in NY but am willing and able to travel to Fl to see a specialist. Thank you so much, Julia

So sorry to hear you got ciguatera, the only doctor I can suggest is the one on the video link on my site, Reef or Madness, her name is Dr. Melissa Friedman out of Miami, FL, 305.534.3636. I’ve spoken to her on a number of times so please let her know you were referred by my website.
As far as I know there is no cure for ciguatera but time, it just has to run its course. I was a mental wreck after the first 60 days of not feeling better and thought it would never go away but it finally does, keep a positive mental outlook and tell yourself every day I will get better.
I’m curious as to what fish you ate and where? Feel free to call me if you would like to talk, my contact info is below…

Thanks so much Jeff for giving me Melissa’s contact info.  I’ll definitely let her know you referred me.  It’s been so tough to find a doctor which is crazy.  And then wonder why this condition is so under reported…

I was diagnosed in St. Thomas.  I ate Snapper.  My husband had it too, which is weird, but I was the only one affected.
I’ve had 2 really scary episodes since where I feel like I can’t breathe, my limbs go numb, I feel really confused and have difficulty speaking, and am really nauseous.  It’s pretty frustrating because it’s been at really random times and I’ve had to rush to the hospital.
I’m just trying to find some resources with how to deal with these attacks when they happen and what I can do to avoid them.
It’s been exactly 6 months since I ingested the fish.
Really glad to hear you are feeling better.  I’m sure it felt pretty daunting at first, but must feel great to have it behind you:)
Anyways, I really appreciate you taking the time to get back to me.
Stay in touch:)
Thanks for the info, there’s a good possibility the piece your husband had was from a different fish, impossible to tell. Good luck and please let me know when your feeling better..
