Have you been affected by Ciguatera Poisoning?: Yes, I have had ciguatera poisoning
How did you hear about us?: Search Engine

Tell us your story: Hi I have been reading your blog because I ate coral trout last night and spent most of the day up at the hospital on a drip. All the classic symptoms. Diarrhoea, tingling, itching, dizziness, muscle pains – feet and hands just ache, aching teeth and can’t touch or drink anything cold without feeling like an electric shock is going through me. You’re right – the doctors tell me that I just have to rest. And not yo eat any fish or shellfish for 6 months or alcohol for at least 3 months. Wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Qld health were immediately notified by the hospital and they have already been in contact with me and also sent a fact sheet. I hope I don’t have to suffer for too long as it is quite debilitating especially as I never get sick. Thank you for the blog. Em

 Em:
So sorry to hear you have ciguatera, hopefully it will be a short bout and you will be better soon. You’re the third person in the past two months from Australia that has contacted the site, glad to hear the word is getting out around the world about this awful disease. Hopefully one of the health agencies somewhere in the world can come up a test in the future to detect ciguatera toxin in fish before people eat it.

Please let me know if you can email the fact sheet you got QLD?  I’m curious to see how it compares to the information here in the US.
Please keep me posted on your progress.
Sincerely,
Jeff
