Have you been affected by Ciguatera Poisoning?: Yes, I have had ciguatera poisoning
How did you hear about us?: Social Network
Tell us your story: Hi! I got ciguatera two months ago. I am from Dominican Republic and ate ceviche in and hotel while on vacaction. The next day I woke up feeling weak and shaking a lot, but I never imagined that Ciguatera existed and how I didn´t have any gastro issues I never went to the ER. After a week of getting back to the city I felt lightheaded and very weak, how I normally have a mild case of dysatonimia ( in which the autonomic nervous system (ANS) does not work correctly) I thought I was just weak because of that. But, I felt very strange even though I forced my body to work. I work with three year olds, so I was permanently active. Two weeks went by feeling weak and with a burning sensation and itch in my body, and I woke up one night with terriblet chills, tachicardia, burning sensation in my body which made me go to the ER, thinking I was having a heart attack, but they found nothing wrong with me and told me it was just a panic attack due to stress. After horrible days and nights without going to work, a doctor finally told me it was ciguatera and that it affected my nervous system worse due to my dysautonomia. I get burning sensations, chills, my body feels totally heavy when I stand and I get stomah cramps (not being able to eat or digest properly). It sometimes makes it even hard to breathe. I have only eaten soup, mash potatoes and small pieces of bread in the last two months. Does anyone know what can I take for my terrible stomach cramps? Can Activated Charcoal work even after two months? I was starting to feel well and all of a sudden two days ago i havent been able to get out of bed with severe pain an stomach cramps! is there anything that can make it leave your body faster? Thank you!
Laura:

Sorry for the delayed response I was on vacation for a couple of weeks and just now catching up. I hope your feeling much better by now, please let me know. Your case is very typical of people getting sick and not knowing what it is, then going to a doctor with all the symptoms and them not know what it is, panic attack due to stress, REALLY!!
I’m glad a doctor finally gave you the right diagnosis so you know what you have and can try to deal with it. I don’t know of any treatment that helps, nothing I tried over the months helped me with the symptoms and some things made symptoms worse. It affects people differently and the only thing unfortunately that I know of is time for the toxins to leave your body. If you come across anything that does ease the symptoms please let me know..
Sincerely,
Jeff
